What is this site about?

Sisterdo is a review site for natural hair products and salons. If you have ethnically curly or kinky hair, you are in the right place!   Here you can search by product, brand or hair type to find something that works for you. Sisterdo also supports small businesses by allowing you to search for salons salons near you that cater to natural hair.

Do I have to sign up for an account?

There’s no need to sign up to access any of the products or reviews.  However, in order to write a review, we do ask you to go through a simple sign-up process to join our Sisterdo community.

How do I leave a review?

It’s easy!  After you login, go to the home page, and scroll down to the “Share Your Experience” section. 

Select the category you are interested in from the tabs at the top of the box. Choose the product, salon or DIY recipe you would like to review from the drop down menu and fill in the required fields.


Alternatively, you can look for products or salons which are already in the system through the search bar.

From this listing page, select “View More” on the product you would like to review.

Hit “Write Reviews” and share away!

What if my product or salon is not listed?

If you do not see your item, you can add it from the main “Share Your Experience” page. Click on the link at the bottom of the box “I found a new product for SisterDo!”

This will bring you to the “Post a Review” page where you can manually enter the product or salon for review. 

Upon approval, your review will automatically be uploaded to the site.


You can also upload a review for a new entity by navigating to the “Share Your Review” button on the top right of the navigation panel. This directs you to the “Post a Review” page.

How do I add a product from my profile page?

Login or sign-up, and navigate to your profile, which you access by clicking on your user name in the top right corner of the navigation bar. Once you are on your profile, click “Add a Product” and fill in the required fields. Save the settings.

New products will require approval. Once the product is uploaded and live, we will notify you via email so that you can leave a review.

How do I add a salon from my profile page?

Go into your profile and click “Add Salon.” Fill out the requested information and hit “Submit for Approval.” You will be notified via email when the business page has been created for the site. This often requires communication with the business on our part, so this may take a little bit longer than approving a new product.

I am a salon owner, how do I upload my business to the database?

Sign up for an account through the top right of the navigation panel. A page will open up with two sections, one for your account information and the other for your business information. Fill in all required fields and save the settings.

We will need to review your submission before posting. Upon approval, the business listing will automatically appear under the Salon section of the Reviews tab as well as under the “Latest Salons” section on the home page.


How do I edit my salon’s listing?

Your business page can be modified from your profile page, under “Update Business.”

I am a salon owner, can I pay for a featured listing?

Of course! All of our listings are free, and we encourage new businesses to sign up so that users have more resources to choose from. However, since our listings are posted chronologically by entry date, your listing will move down in placement on the site page. We will be adding in an option for you to be able to  pay a modest fee to remain in the top third of the page listings. Email us at hello@sisterdohaircare.com to discuss listing opportunities.

I have a natural hair brand with a number of different products. Is there a way I can feature them on your website?

Yes! We started Sisterdo because we love trying new products and would love to work with your brand to help spread the word. Please email us at hello@sisterdohaircare.com to discuss business opportunities.

Where do I find and search for products?

If you go to the Reviews tab in the navigation panel, this will direct you to the page with all the products, salons and DIY listings.

Once you are there, select the category you would like to view(highlighted in pink). You can also choose to search by brand, category or keyword in the search box. The advanced search allows you to filter by price point, rating, category etc.


I submitted a review but why don’t I see it listed?

Your review may be put on hold until we are able to publish a page on the product or salon. Additionally, all submissions require approval before they are uploaded to the system. If your review is not published within a reasonable amount of time, it could be because the content did not abide by community guidelines and was rejected. What are your review guidelines?

Our team evaluates reviews and images to make sure they fulfill our guidelines before they are published. The best and most helpful reviews are factually correct, include details from your firsthand experience, and have photos.

  1. Guidelines for writing your review:

    • Include enough of a description to be helpful for others

    • Please exclude profanity, threats or personal insults

    • Don’t include personal information such as email addresses or phone numbers

  2. Guidelines for uploading photos to products or salons:

    • Photos should be in context

    • Image format should be jpeg or png

    • If you have privacy concerns, consider blurring or blacking out the face of individuals in the photo

    • Please do not violate anyone's copyrights. Post only your own photographs and not photographs from other sites, users, or individuals.

How are your star ratings calculated?

A star rating is calculated using all ratings submitted. We may also include our own ratings from our editorial team, based on our actual review of the product or service. Also, we never change a rating at a brand or salon's request.

Who else can read my reviews?

Your reviews are publicly available on our site to users, and we may share your reviews with others. We may also re-format and redistribute your reviews on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

How do I change my profile picture?

Login to your account, and on the right side of the profile page underneath your name you can edit the information. Choose a new image file and update.

I am having issues logging in, even though I created an account. What do I do?

Do companies pay you to recommend their products or services?

No. However, we receive compensation (sometimes from the company, sometimes from third party agencies) when we refer a consumer to a company's site through a link on Sisterdo. This does not affect our ratings or reviews.

Why is my page not updating or submitting?

Try clearing your browsing history and your stored cookies. You can do this from the settings of your browser bar. If you are still having an issue, please contact us at hello@sisterdohaircare.com.
